Apprehending and Indicting President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Qayyoom over Alleged Crimes

Male’, Maldives – 8th September 2016. – Adhaalath Party annunciates that the incumbent President of the Maldives, Mr. Abdulla Yameen Abdul Qayyoom is currently been accused of corruption, embezzlement, money laundering, enfeebling of law enforcement authorities, undermining the independence and autonomy of the judicial system, abusing state powers, malfeasance in office, abrogating the responsibilities of independent institutions, coercing statutory institutions to harm fellow compatriots, constraining freedom of assembly, repressing freedom of expression, and so on and so forth. In spite of all efforts of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Qayyoom to counterpoise these allegations by suppressing free media and attempted obliteration of dissents, the news has travelled far beyond local media reporting and is currently been covered under international media headlines along with material evidences.
Corruption and embezzlement, obstructing judicature, depriving or conspiring or concealing right to life and ownership of properties, betrayal to conferred responsibilities and misappropriation of state assets are clear transgressions in Islam as well as constitutional breaches and infringements of laws.
Hence, if the aforementioned breaches and infractions are not redressed duly, the consequences would be detrimental to fellow compatriots, while further escalation of the matters would even retrograde the nation back to its darkest part of totalitarianism. For these reasons, Adhaalath Party profoundly and profusely calls upon all relevant authorities to apprehend President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Qayyoom, along with his cronies and indict them in a court of law with assurance of a fair trial upon them.
