Calling to End the Torment Inflicted on Sheikh Imran Abdulla During His Unjust Incarceration

Malé, Maldives – 2 July 2017 – Adhaalath Party strictly condemns the inhumane and excruciating treatment to Sheikh Imran Abdulla by the Maldives Correctional Services soon after his recent transfer to the prison from house arrest.
Sheikh Imran Abdulla is currently being incarcerated in one of the most notorious poison cells, along with extremely dangerous inmates who have been convicted of homicides. As the condition of these cells are extremely poor, the Party fears that it may inflict grievous harm to his already deteriorating health. Being a religious scholar and a political leader, Adhaalath Party urges all concerned authorities that Sheikh Imran Abdulla be treated humanely with due respect for his inherent human dignity.
Adhaalath Party strongly believes that the Government, alas, has resorted to such cruelty in inflicting bodily harm and mental anguish to Sheikh Imran Abdulla in order to silence him on the grave atrocities of President Abdulla Yameen. However, Adhaalath Part assures its members in particular and the entire population in general, the spirit and conscience of Sheikh Imran Abdulla would remain unbridled, right in the face of the severity and brutality of President Abdulla Yameen’s government.
